The House of Common Sluts is always happy to welcome new members. Since each House is different some of the traditions about joining and progressing vary too. As a multi-tradition collective we  have been looking to find a way that suits us and our mission in London. After some debate and consulting with Sisters from Houses around the globe we have agreed the stages that members of the House go through on their journey to be Sisters or Guards. In brief ...

  1. Anyone interested in joining the Sisters normnally contacts with us either in person when we are out and aboutor through the web site (See Contact Us).
  2. You will be invited to join the House for a manifestation. Depending how you feel this could be in a habit that the Sisters club together to lend you (so you can get a feeling for what it might be like) or in you civvies if you would be more comfortable the first time. At this point you are an Aspirant.
  3. If you are still mad enough to want to join, you will be invited to a Nuncheon with the Sisters and Guards to talk about your calling and what it means to be a memeber of the Order. If everyone is happy you will be enrolled as an Postulant. In discussion with the House you will chose one of the Sisters to be your Godmother who's role is to keep an eye on you and guide you on your journey.
  4. You will usually be a Postulant Sister or Guard for 12 Manifestations or a year and a day  - although this can be varied by the Fully Professed Sisters (the FPSs). During this time you will manifest and take a full part in the work and business of the House, but you will not be allowed to wear black or white veils.
  5. At the end of your time as a Postulant, (and you might not always know when that is ... somethings have to be a surprise!), you will have a vestition ceremony and raised to the Noviciate and be permitted to wear the white veil.
  6. You will normally depend 6-12 months as a novice, but ultimately it is the FPSs who will decide if you are ready to be black-veiled and take on the full responsiilities of being a You will be invited to a Nuncheon to be grilled. If you crisp nicely but don't burn you will be black-veiled nd become aFully Professed Sister. As an FPS you will now be ready to have Goddaughters and Godsons of your.own.

All sounds a bit serious? Well it is. As Sisters and Guards we like a laugh and a frolic as much as anyone - after all, being festively indulgent is one of the reasons we join. However, we also believe that what we do is important and that as Sisters and Guards we have an important contribution to make to our community.

By the way, prospective Guards, the process is just the same for you. The veils might look different but your journey runs in tandem with that of a Sister. Bear in mind that we are a collective (unlike other House we do not have a Reverend Mother figure) and you will be part of the decsion process from becoming a Postulant. Of course as a Guard you will be expected to look particularly dashing and sexy in your leather or rubber - and yep - you do get to carry the handbags.

As we have mentioned we are a mixed tradition House, so you will notice that some of the Sisters and Guards wear the "white face" whilst others do not. This is not an issue either way, it is a matter of preference - as is the style of Habit you chose to adopt. You will certainly be encouraged to experiement and there is nothing wrong with being outrageous. Indeed, this is all part of the journey that we will share with you as you become the Sister or Guard you feel you were meant to be.
